Growing your business from small acorns

In Episode 11 Sarah Hamilton-Gill FCIPD talks about how all new businesses start with small acorns, and that it’s ok to have one or two clients to get going. Sarah reminisces on starting her business when she had no clients.

There was no social media, so it was doubly important to get out and about and network. During the pandemic this hasn’t been possible, but being able to meet your clients face to face really does make a difference.

Sarah is joined by Steve Carpenter, MD of Herts HR Ltd, who is one of her Bootcamp graduates. Steve discusses how until he attended the Bootcamp he was going to be a generalist HR consultant, but that due to the Bootcamp he realised that he needed to find his niche client. This gave him clarity and increased his confidence.

He goes on to talk about how invaluable he has found the support of the community groups run after he graduated from Bootcamp. Being a sole HR consultant can be a lonely place but thanks to collaborations, help and support, this has and continues to really help during good and challenging times.
